Initial Assessment:
There are times when circumstances lead us to feel overwhelmed and out of control and unable to manage stress in our home, school, or work setting. Such disruptions may be due to biological changes, psychological factors, problems in relationships, changes in our social support network, or due to any combination of factors. Before I can determine what will be the most effective treatment, I need to begin with a detailed history and explore current and past difficulties. I am cognizant that many factors interact to affect feelings, mood, thinking, and behavior – genetics/biology, personality/temperament, life experiences, family relationships, and current circumstances.

At the end of the initial evaluation, I will present my assessment of the problem. This evaluation combines biological, psychological and social aspects with the developmental needs, history and strengths of the child, adult and family.

When a treatable problem is identified, recommendations are provided and a specific treatment plan is developed. Most often a combination of medication and therapy will be recommended, but there are times when one or the other might be more appropriate
